'A Nightmare on Elm Street' movie review!
Let's see, where do I start?
Well let's start with the plot. The movie is a re-imagining of the horror icon Freddy Krueger (now played by Jackie Earle Haley), a serial-killer who's weapon of chose is a glove with four blades embedded in the fingers and kills teenagers in their dreams, resulting in their real death in reality. The film also stars, Kyle Gallner, Rooney Mara, Katie Cassidy and Thomas Dekker (I).
Now I know the movie is a remake/re-imagining. But I felt that the film was trying to be a to much like the original. I mean the reason for a remake is to make it different from the original. There were parts of it where I felt like I was watching the 1984 version just with a different Freddy and a better camera. But, let's move on.
As far as the acting goes, I don't know the actors to criticize them to much. Jakie Earle Haley did a pretty good job. But he's no Robert Englund. As for the others, they came off kind of dull. You really don't make much of a connection with any of them. And when they die, you kind of don't care.
To me a lot of the kills or just plan scenes come off laughable. Compared to the '84 version, which use to scare the hell out of me when I was young, now its just kind of passable. Also to me, it looks as if they messed up on Haley's make up, around the eyes, he almost looks like a lion in the eyes. As seen below:
Over all the film was just laughable to me. It's hard to give this a rating, I'm not sure why. But I'm torn between the ratings. When it comes down to I guess this is just a RENT IT. If you haven't seen the 1984 original, I would go rent that instead. It's a far better film.
