2 Versions of '20,000 Leagues' coming!
Source: The Hollywood Reporter
The Hollywood Reporter says that Disney is in negotiations with David Fincher to direct, and Bourne Ultimatum scribe Scott Z. Burns to write, a new take on 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.
At the same time, producers Ridley and Tony Scott are developing 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea for Fox with a script by Clash of the Titans co-writer Travis Beacham.
Timur Bekmambetov is rumored to be in talks to direct Fox's version, but he hasn't signed on as of yet.
First published in 1869, the classic science fiction novel is in the public domain. Disney memorably adapted the story -- about a group of men who encounter a vengeful scientific genius and his warlike submarine -- in 1954 with Kirk Douglas starring.
Plotlines are being kept under wraps, but the Fincher/Burns take on the novel is described as being in the vein of Star Wars and the filmmakers will aim to create a visually dazzling movie.
