'The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus' DVD review!
To start off this is Heath Ledger's last film. Which a lot of people don't know. Many people think it was The Dark Knight, but it wasn't. Now that I got that out of the way, let's move on.
The movie centers around; A traveling theater company that gives its audience much more than they were expecting, Lilly Cole, Christopher Plummer, Tom Waits, Andrew Garfield and Verne Troyer, co-star. When they come apon a man hanging from a rope under a bridge, named Tony (Ledger). He is a very mysterious character, who's dark background comes into play later into the story.
In the film, they shot all of Ledger's scenes out side of the Imaginarium. But because of Heath's untimely and tragic death, he could not finish the scenes he didn't film. So a few of Ledger's friends stepped in to shoot the scenes he couldn't. The actors were as followed: Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell. This might seem weird reading about it, but it works when you see the film.
The visual affects in the film are great. When you go through this mirror basically all your dreams come true. Everything is beautiful. It's pretty much Willy Wonka on acid, in a good way. Which Terry Gilliam is known for.
The story is filled with a lot of heart. You feel for the characters. You want to see them succeed. When you get to the part when you find out Ledger's past, you almost feel bad for him. In one way or an other.
So since the film is already out on Blu-ray and DVD, I Highly Recommend this film. It's a very fun movie and a great last film by the late great Heath Ledger.
