"The Lovely Bones" Movie Review

Bones, Bones, The Lovely Bones, Haa. There's a lot to be said about this movie. Now keep in mind that I have never read the book, and a lot of critics that have read the book, say the movie doesn't do the book justice. But here we go, to start off, the top two performances in the movie are by Stanley Tucci and Saoirse Ronan.

The plot is about a 14 year old year that is murdered and is in the "in-between" as they call it. While she's there she try's to help here father (Mark Wahlberg) to solve her murder. The story is told of the perspective of Susie Salmon (Saoirse Ronan) via the in-between. As the story progresses you notice that the family is extremely to happy, but I can see why Peter Jackson did this. For the reason of seeing the impact on the family after the murder. The special effects in the movie are kind of off putting. They seem like a screen saver in a way.

And there was no need for all the over the top CG. They just cut away from they story to basically say "look at the cool CG!" The only two people with depth in the movie is Ronan and Tucci. Everyone else is just kind of thrown to the side. Also out of no where the mom played by Rachel Weisz, gets up and disappears, with very little explanation.

Then after Weisz leaves, Susan Sarandon shows up as the comic relief. Which in this kind of movie is a bad judgement call. Walhlberg's performance is a little dry, it seems like he's medicated the whole time. But I'm thinking it was the script and he was just going with was given to him. But the overall message of the movie is that life can move on, you can get past hard or tragic times in you or your families life.

You probably think I hate this movie or dilike and the answer is no, it was enjoyable in certain areas. So to bring this long ass review to a end, I give the movie a RENT IT. Its nothing to special you can wait until it comes out on DVD and you wont regret it.
